Bronze key based on an original find in SkĂ„ne, Sweden, dated to the 800s. Several similar keys have been found in Scandinavia, usually in female graves. One of the ways to display the strong position of a married woman during the Viking Age was through her keys to the house and storages. Keys were hung visibly on her outfit, often together with a small knife, or a pair of scissors.Â
